Abraham Lincoln delivered one of the most famous speeches in American history on Thursday, November 19, 1863 at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
There are five known manuscript copies of the speech in Lincoln's handwriting, and are named for the people who received them: Colonel Alexander Bliss, John G. Nicolay, John Hay, Edward Everett, and George Bancroft.
