About Solid Explorer

Solid Explorer is a file manager app that offers dual pane browsing and secure file handling.

Solid Explorer helps users who manage files across phone storage and multiple online services. It is designed for everyday organization, quick viewing, and reliable file moves, while also keeping sensitive items protected. At the same time, it supports remote connections so you can work with NAS or cloud content alongside local folders. If you install through an APK, the Solid Explorer APK delivers the same core experience on Android phones and Chromebooks.

Solid Explorer features

Dual pane browsing and fast file operations

Solid Explorer shows two locations side by side to help you work faster. You can drag and drop to copy or move files between panes, then run batch operations when many items need to change at once. This layout reduces back and forth navigation, so common tasks feel more direct.

Cloud and NAS connections in one place

Solid Explorer connects to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, and servers using WebDAV, FTP, SFTP, or SMB. You can browse remote folders, transfer files, and even move content from one cloud or NAS to another without downloading locally first. Mega support is available with a paid add on, which sets clear expectations for that service.

File security and encryption

Solid Explorer lets you protect files with AES encryption and unlock them using a password or fingerprint. Secured folders remain protected even after you uninstall the app, which helps maintain privacy. You can also create and extract encrypted ZIP and 7ZIP archives, with read support for RAR and TAR formats.

Tools for advanced users and PC access

Solid Explorer includes a root explorer for devices with root access, plus batch rename with patterns for consistent file names. Built in viewers let you open images, music, and text without extra apps. An FTP server is available so you can access your phone from a PC over the same network.

Organization, search, and media casting

Solid Explorer builds smart collections for photos, videos, music, documents, and apps to group items automatically. Indexed search supports filters, and folder size insights help you spot large files quickly. For media, you can cast content to a TV using Chromecast, and customization options like themes, icon sets, and plugins adapt the interface and capabilities to your needs.

Before you download Solid Explorer

Solid Explorer is a file manager for Android that covers local storage, cloud accounts, and network shares in one place. Some services, such as Mega, require a paid add on to enable support. Plugins add extra clients or tools when needed, and themes or icon sets adjust the look to match your preferences. If you want the latest features, look for the Solid Explorer latest version when installing.

Solid Explorer on Chrome OS and TV

Solid Explorer works on Chromebooks with mouse and keyboard input, which helps when managing larger folders. For TVs with Chromecast or Google TV, the app can cast media from local, cloud, or NAS sources when the phone and TV are on the same network. These scenarios make it practical to browse storage on a laptop style device and play files on a bigger screen.

How to use Solid Explorer

After you download Solid Explorer, you can start with a few practical tasks to set up storage and secure files. The steps below cover connecting a NAS, enabling the FTP server for PC access, batch renaming, creating encrypted archives, and casting media to a TV.

  1. Open Solid Explorer, then add a network share. Choose SMB or WebDAV, enter the server address and your login details, and save the connection. Once added, you can browse the NAS alongside local folders.
  2. Enable the built in FTP server for PC access. Set a username and password, start the server, and note the address shown. On your PC, use an FTP client to connect and manage your phone’s files over the same Wi Fi network.
  3. Use the dual pane view to rename many files quickly. Select the items, choose batch rename, and apply a pattern with numbers or text. Review the preview, then confirm to update all names at once.
  4. Create a secure archive when you need to protect sensitive files. Select the items, choose create archive, pick ZIP or 7ZIP, and set an AES password or fingerprint unlock. Save the encrypted file and store it in a protected folder.
  5. Cast media to a TV with Chromecast for easy playback. Open a video or music file in Solid Explorer, tap the cast option, then select your Chromecast device. After the connection is established, control playback directly from your phone.
