Rad Unread implements the TeslaUnread API for other apps to use. This allows other apps that only support setting the unread count for the Nova Launcher home screen to support other home screens. Currently this app supports ADW, Apex, ASUS, HTC, LG, Samsung, Solid, Sony and Xiaomi Launchers.

Additionally this app updates the unread count for the Gmail app. Most other apps use a widget to do this. This app uses your home screens inbuilt method of displaying the unread count. The advantage of this method is that the unread count matches all of your other apps. The disadvantage is that it can only set the unread count for the main Gmail icon and not the Gmail label shortcuts.
