The prostanoids are used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and are given by continuous infusion. Setting up the pump requires a complex calculation. The CliniCalc app aims to assist calculation of prostanoid doses/flow rates.

The app includes algorithms for the following medications:

1) Epoprostenol (Flolan ®, prostacyclin, PGI2) intravenous, using CADD-PRIZM pump

2) Treprostenil (Remodulin ®) intravenous using Chrono-5 pump

3) Treprostenil (Remodulin ®) subcutaneous using CADD-MS3 pump and I Jet pump

It is possible to calculate a pump flow-rate (ml/hr) from the dose (ng/kg/min) and vice versa.

The 'opti-flow' algorithm aims to give the physician an optimized drug prescription and flow rate to minimize syringe/cassette changes for the patient.
