Varamahalakshmi Vrata is a festival to propitiate the goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trinity. Lakshmi or Varamahalakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity.

It is believed that the Varalakshmi form of the goddess bestows boons and fulfills all desires of her devotees. Hence this form of the goddess is known as Vara + Lakshmi i.e. Goddess Lakshmi who bestows boons.

It is believed that worshiping Goddess Varalakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshiping Ashtalakshmi – the eight goddesses of Wealth, Earth, Learning, Love, Fame, Peace, Pleasure, and Strength.

Varamahalakshmi Vrata is mostly performed by married women for the well being of all the family members, especially husband, to get progeny etc. Young girls will performed this Vrata to get married to a good husband/ Life-partner.
