Ustadz Abdul Somad or commonly called UAS, was born in the village of Silo Lama in the district of Asahan, North Sumatra on May 18, 1977. He is a descendant of Sheikh Abdurrahman, a great scholar from Batu Bara district, North Sumatra.

Since childhood, UAS has studied in the Islamic environment. Starting from SD AL-Washliyah Medan, then continue to MTS Mu’allimin. After MTS he did not immediately go on to high school, but entered the Darul Arafah Deli Serdang Islamic Boarding School for a year. Only then did he continue to Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Falah in the Indragiri Hulu region and graduated in 1996.

UAS continued his studies at UIN SISKA Riau, but only lasted for two years until 1998. After that he chose to continue his education at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt through the scholarship route after defeating 900 other scholarship applicants.

He completed his studies in only 3 years and 10 months. After graduating, the UAS is not complacent. He continued his Masters at the Dar Al-Hadis Al-Hassania Institute through a Moroccan royal scholarship. Then he completed his studies within 1 year 11 months.

After completing his education, he returned to Indonesia and decided to become an Arabic lecturer and hadith interpretation at Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University from 2009. He also served as a lecturer in Islamic religion at the Al-Azhar Islamic High School of the Masmur Foundation.

In addition to teaching UAS, he is also active as a member of the Study and Organizational Commission, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Riau and the Secretary of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Institute of Riau Province and members of the Amil Zakat Agency in Riau from 2009 to 2014.

In between his busy UAS took time to preach. He uploaded his lecture recordings to Youtube and from there he watched many of the lecture videos. Since then the name of the UAS continues to be known to the public even had become viral on the internet.
