Salmo 140

Great Psalm

1 Deliver me, O LORD, from the wicked; protect me from the violent,

2 who in their hearts devise wicked plans and are always provoking war.

3 They sharpen their tongue like a serpent's; Viper poison is on your lips.

4 Protect me, O LORD, from the hand of the wicked; Protect me from the violent ones who want to stumble me.

5 Arrogant men have set snares against me, wicked men have spread their nets; In my way they set snares against me.

6 I declare unto the Lord, Thou art my God. Hear, Lord, my supplication!

7 O Sovereign Lord, my mighty Savior, thou shalt protect my head in the day of battle;

8 Do not heed the desires of the wicked, Lord! Do not allow their plans to succeed so they will not be proud.

9 The wickedness that their lips have uttered on the head of those around me.

10 Embers fall upon them, and are thrown into the fire, into pits from which they can never go out.

11 Let not slanderers be established in the earth, let misfortune pursue the violent unto death.

12 I know that the Lord will defend the cause of the needy and do justice to the poor.

13 The righteous will surely give thanks to your name, and righteous men will live in your presence.
