About Play Dough Slime

Learn how to make your own colorful dough slime.

Teaches kids how to make colorful, non-borax and borax, shaving foam and edible slime dough.

Slime or slaym is a great dough and jelly game set that enhances the creative aspect of kids. Here is how to make an edible one:

Edible Slime:

Pour a can of sweetened condensed milk into a pan. Add one tablespoon of cornstarch to the mixture and stir.

Bring the mixture to a low heat. Continue to stir constantly. If you don’t, the mixture may stick.

Remove the mixture from the heat when it has thickened. It should be more gelatinous and harder to stir.

Add 10 to 15 drops of food coloring to the mixture. You can choose any color. Allow the mixture to cool before you let your kids play with (and eat) it.

Make sure that the slime does not get on anything that stains easily or that you want to keep unstained. The food coloring in the slime may cause it to stain lighter colored things.

And the way to make a living slime.

Living Slime:

Mix ¾ cup (175ml) of cornstarch with 2 cups (475ml) of vegetable oil. Mix it thoroughly in a tumbler or other glass.

Place the mixture-filled glass in the refrigerator. Leave it in the refrigerator until the mixture is chilled. This will help it to solidify.

Remove the mixture from the refrigerator. Stir it well (the ingredients will have separated again). Let the mixture warm up just enough that it flows slightly.

Find a block of styrofoam. It can really be any size but the standard size is 1 by 6 by 6 inches (25x150x150mm). Run the styrofoam on your hair (or really anything that will give it a charge- a rug, a dog, your child, etc.) The point is to build up a static charge.

Tip the container of slime so that the slime flows slowly out of it. (It should flow slowly.) Place the piece of styrofoam just in front of the slime. It should be about 1-inch away from the flow of slime. The slime should stop flowing and appear to take on a life of its own. Wiggle the styrofoam around and the slime should follow it. Your kids will be amazed (and you will be too!)
