Ganesha (Sanskrit: गणेश), or Ganesh, also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in the Hindu religion.

Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rites and ceremonies. Ganesha is also invoked as patron of letters and learning during writing sessions.

Hindu mythology identifies him as the restored son of Parvati and Shiva of the Shaivism tradition. In the Ganapatya tradition of Hinduism, Ganesha is the supreme deity. The principal texts on Ganesha include the Ganesha Purana, the Mudgala Purana, and the Ganapati Atharvashirsa. Brahma Purana and Brahmanda Purana are other two Puranic genre encyclopaedic texts that deal with Ganesha.

गणेश शिवजी और पार्वती के पुत्र हैं। उनका वाहन डिंक नामक मूषक है। गणों के स्वामी होने के कारण उनका एक नाम गणपति भी है। ज्योतिष में इनको केतु का देवता माना जाता है और जो भी संसार के साधन हैं, उनके स्वामी श्री गणेशजी हैं। हाथी जैसा सिर होने के कारण उन्हें गजानन भी कहते हैं। गणेश जी का नाम हिन्दू शास्त्रों के अनुसार किसी भी कार्य के लिये पहले पूज्य है। इसलिए इन्हें प्रथमपूज्य भी कहते हैं। गणेश की उपसना करने वाला सम्प्रदाय गाणपत्य कहलाता है।
