Rovio, the developer behind Angry Birds - one of the most popular mobile game series in recent years - has announced that they are going to remove their remake title "Rovio Classics: Angry Birds" from various platforms. This was revealed through a tweet on their official account.
Rovio Classics: Angry Birds will be delisted as it interferes with other games in the portfolio
The developers from Finland have a lot of projects in the pipeline, and it has been decided to remove Angry Birds as this game could interfere with their other projects. Shawn Buckelew, the community manager mentioned that the decision was based on how much impact Angry Birds had on those upcoming projects.
Rovio has stated that other Angry Birds games will still be available in the App Store. Moreover, iOS users can now get their hands on "Red's First Flight", which used to go by the name of "Angry Birds". The delisting process was done so they could focus more energy on creating new titles, but some fans think otherwise and came up with different ideas as to why it happened.
Players have openly expressed their displeasure with the announcement
Some people think that Rovio is taking Angry Birds off the market because it was too successful. This could be bad for their other projects as fans may only recognize them for this game, so they're trying to create space for new ideas and initiatives. Of course, these are just speculations from supporters - there's no official confirmation of this theory yet.
On Thursday, February 23rd, the game will no longer be available on Google Play. Although people who already have it installed can still play afterwards, many fans were not happy with this announcement and expressed their disappointment.
