There is some exciting news coming up as Garena Free Fire prepares to make a comeback in India on September 5, 2023. The game will be relaunched under the name Free Fire India and has partnered with Yotta for local data storage. This popular Battle Royale game will join Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) which was released earlier this year on May 29th.
It was leaked earlier that Free Fire India is set to make its return soon
In 2022, the Indian Government made an announcement to ban Garena's Free Fire and 11 other games. This decision came after the game was already removed from the App Store. Even though Garena, a Singapore-based company, developed and published Free Fire, and its parent company Sea Ltd is also based in Singapore, the ban was connected to Chinese developers and publishers within their organization.
However, one year after the prohibition, on August 25th, Free Fire's recently hired public relations firm accidentally revealed that there was a possibility of the game making a comeback. Due to an error, this undisclosed information was mistakenly shared and became known for some time.
Even though they tried to take back the email, the person who originally posted it on Twitter ended up deleting the Tweet. This incident reinforced the belief that the game would be returning soon, and shortly after without much delay, we received the official announcement.
MS Dhoni will be added in Free Fire India called Thala
In the announcement, Garena has revealed that they have appointed MS Dhoni, a renowned Indian cricket player and former captain who led his team to victory in the World Cup, as their brand ambassador for Free Fire India. Additionally, he will be featured in the game as a character called Thala, which is a popular nickname given to him.
Dhoni will be joined by other well-known sports personalities like Sunil Chhetri, Saina Nehwal, Leander Paes, and Rahul Chaudhari. The details of their arrival are yet to be revealed.
In addition, Garena has announced that the Free Fire India Championship (FFIC) will take place later this month. Players from various regions in India are invited to join and the winning team will have an opportunity to represent their country at the Free Fire World Series in Thailand in November. Further information about FFIC and other esports events dedicated to Free Fire India will be provided in the coming weeks.
Based on the information provided in the announcements, it is clear that Free Fire India plans to capitalize on the players in their region once more. They are set to launch the game on September 5th for both Android and iOS, with pre-registrations already open. This suggests that they are eager to attract back their previous player base. Additionally, there seems to be a promising future for Indian Esports as they plan to start a championship just one month after the game's release.
