The competition for cycling promotion, climate protection and quality of life! Every year, tens of thousands of people get on their bikes and collect kilometres for their team and municipality. Whether you’re cycling to work or just for fun, the goal is CO2-free travel.

TRACKING

The routes you cycle will be tracked via GPS and the kilometres credited to your team and municipality.

You are able to quickly check who in your team is cycling how much and how you compare to other teams in the results overview.

Communicate with your team and motivate others to cycle even more in the intuitive team chat.

PLANNING TOOL FOR MUNICIPALITIES

By using the CITY CYCLING App you have the opportunity to actively take part in improving the conditions for cycling in your municipality. As part of the MOVEBIS mobility project, the Technical University in Dresden (TU Dresden) is using the kilometre data to investigate cycling behaviour in Germany. This data will be made available to all municipalities participating in CITY CYCLING and serve as an additional tool for their bicycle traffic planning. Thematic maps will provide insights into where people actually cycle, where traffic flows well and where cyclists constantly have to stop at red lights, for example. The vibrations recorded by cyclists’ smartphones will also be used to obtain information about the (cycle) route’s surface. The more kilometres tracked, the more useful the results will be!

GENERAL

This app needs to know your current position during tracking. Your phone’s GPS is used to determine this, which may cause your phone battery to discharge faster than usual.

KNOWN BUGS

On some devices, the routes tracked are not added to the “Routes” tab. They must be added manually instead. This data is still included in the route visualisation as part of the MOVEBIS research project though.

Duplicate entries occur on some devices. Routes can be removed manually using the “Delete” function.

On older devices, delays may arise when the Start/Stop button is pressed.

Some Android devices have severe guidelines regarding the sleep mode function, which are even more severe as required by Google. In this case the app’s GPS access is deprived and therefore the tracking is terminated.

Some Huawei devices have a power saving mode integrated in the background which could terminate the app unexpectedly. This cannot be affected by or programmers.
