DIY Bed Frames

Not all of us enjoy shopping, and it's probably accurate to say that most of us like to save money. If you're the handy type and enjoy DIY projects, you might consider building your own bed frame to save yourself not only the hassle of having tho shop around for one, but also save some cash. Here is a simple outline anybody can follow if they want to build their own frame.

First you will need all of your supplies and materials set out, available and ready to use. These include a supply of some high quality wood ( make sure you have extra too in case you make any mistakes and need to redo parts), a saw, tape measure, a pencil or marker, some wood glue and wood screws, and finally some veneered plywood.

Now that you have all your materials ready, measure all the sides and dimensions of your bed with the tape measure, and be sure to write all of this information down for later.

With the measurements you've just taken, apply that to your pieces of wood. Mark everything down on the wood with the pencil, and saw out all of the appropriate parts.

After you have all of the parts cut out, glue them all together with a high quality wood glue, then take a break for a few hours while everything dries. When the frame is finished drying, secure all of the pieces together correctly by adding the wood screws.

If this bed is larger than a full size, make sure you add some support beams. There should at least be a single beam in the middle to support the mattress, but you can go ahead and add as many as you want. The more you add, the more support you will have. The beams can be measured and cut the same way as you did before, but they can be added on with just the wood screws; you don't have to glue first like you did before.

Now to finish off, add an appropriately measured and cut sheet of veneered plywood to the top of the frame. As with the support beams, you only need to attach this with the wood screws and glue is not necessary. Congratulations, you've completed your home made bed frame. Have a great night's sleep!
