Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen "A. P. J." Abdul Kalam (15 October 1931 – 27 July 2015) was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was also known as Missile Man. DR. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam remained unmarried throughout his life. DR. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam passed away at Bethany Hospital, Shillong, Meghalaya, due to heart failure after having collapsed during a lecture at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.

Dr. Kalam has addressed over five million youth below the age of 17 and inspired them to become an active participant of India Vision 2020.

He has been awarded the coveted civilian awards - Padma Bhushan (1981) and Padma Vibhushan (1990) and the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna (1997). He is a recipient of several other awards and a Fellow of many professional institutions.
