Amongst 18 Puranas, Vishnu Puran holds an extremely important place in Hindu scriptures. Great Sage VedVyas under the guidance of Lord Brahma Ji composed this scripture in the first phase of Satyug which contains 23000 shlokas (verses) and there are six parts (ansh). This glorifies Lord Vishnu as the creator as well as the sustainer of this brahmand. It is said that earth is named ‘Prithvi’ on the name of King ‘Prithu’, also it is mentioned in Vishnu Puran that those who attain human life are even more blessed and fortunate than Deities, since salvation and attainment of God is only possible in human birth and no other life form.
