Parveen Shakir was an Urdu poet, teacher and a civil servant of the Government of Pakistan.

Parveen started writing at an early age and published her first volume of poetry, Khushbu [Fragrance], in 1976 to great acclaim. She subsequently published other volumes of poetry; all well-received.

Parveen Shakir was a great talent,sadly lost too soon in an accident.This book represents the art of a romantic young woman,her desires and longings,some quite wistful.Delicate emotions are expressed beautifully.The book does justice to its title "khusboo" (fragrance).

Undeniably, the best of the best by a female poet.

Parveen Shakir is the pioneer of azaad poetry. The way she interprets her feelings and desires for her beloved; the pain and longing she felt and not to forget her desire to retain girlhood for eternity and the fear to never enter the realm of womanhood for she wanted her love to be as pure and chaste as that of a young innocent girl who knows no heartbreak and still love to stargaze at night.
