How well do you know the country Ghana? Ghana is a beautiful cultural-filled country located in the western part of Africa. It is a small country that has impressive tourist sites to show the world. With its sunny beaches, lively cities, friendly people, and easy methods of travelling around the country, Ghana is a great place to visit for tourists. Formerly known as the Gold Coast, Ghana gained independence from Britain in 1957, becoming the first sub-Saharan nation to break free from colonial rule. Gold, cocoa and more recently oil form the cornerstone of Ghana's economy and have helped fuel an economic boom.

The country has been able to maintain political stability for many years and according to the Global Peace Index, Ghana is Africa's most peaceful country, having been ranked 40th in the world. The locals you meet will always tell you, “Ghana is free. Ghana is peaceful.”

The typical staple foods in the southern part of Ghana include cassava and plantain. In the northern part, the main staple foods include millet and sorghum. Yam, maize and beans are used across Ghana as staple foods. Sweet potatoes and cocoyam are also important in the Ghanaian diet and cuisine.

Living in Ghana is a one-of-a-kind experience and, despite the lack of local, state-run public transport and other amenities of modern Western life, the country more than makes up for it with charm, friendliness and originality.
