The chapters are named after the stages of the game. The game won't tell you when one chapter ends and another begins, but you can watch it as it loads.

Outlast is a survival horror in which you play a journalist trying to understand what is happening in a psychiatric institution. You will move from one place to another through doors and corridors, and you will hide from the enemy because the journalist does not fight in any way.

Hiding and escaping

Many times in the game, you will be forced to hide from your enemies and go to your destination step by step.

However, your enemies cannot see in the dark, which gives you a certain advantage. If there is no bed or closet under which to hide, try looking for a dark corner and wait until the danger is removed.

However, beds and cabinets are still their main hiding places. If you see the bat carrier, find one of them and hide. Be careful though, because you may want to check under one or the other, or even several before you leave.

If it detects your presence, then the race begins. Keep in mind that it won't die the first time, it will need three or four solids before falling. However, your character is not fighting, so maneuver through the hallways looking for another closet, a bed, a wall to go through, or a room where you can barricade the door.

As you can see, the possibilities are many and the game generally offers you several options at once, so it's up to you to decide what you want to do.
