Jataka is a massive collection of Buddhist folklore about previous incarnations of the Buddha, both in human and animal form. Originally written in Pali, and dating to at least 380 BCE, the Jataka includes many stories which have traveled afar.

Jataka Tales are an important part of Buddhist literature. Jataka stories represent former incarnations of Buddha, at times like an animal, a bird, and sometimes like a human being, the future Siddhartha Gautama. The setting of the stories is made in or near Benares (Varanasi), which is a holy city in north-central India. You can read all stories using this application.

The story tells how the life of a Bodhisattva constantly cultivates virtue in the various realms of the animal world to the world of gods and finally born the last time as Prince Sidhartha sammasam buddhas and who later became known as Buddha or the Buddha Sakyamuni.
