The National Museum Užice is a regional museum in charge of the territory of eight municipalities of Zlatibor District (Užice, Bajina Basta, Kosjerić, Požega, Arilje, Čajetina, Nova Varoš and Sjenica).
It was originally founded on 12 July 1946 as The Museum of Uprising of 1941. The National Museum incorporating both the Museum of Uprising of 1941 and the Civic Museum was established on 29 April 1963.
In 1979, the Memorial Complex Kadinjača was merged with the National Museum of Užice to be managed and used by the National Museum. For some time, the Memorial Complex Kadinjača functioned as an independent institution, from 1991 to 2002. In 2002, it became a part of the National Museum Užice again.
There are different departments in the NATIONAL MUSEUM UŽICE, such as professional departments of archaeology, ethnology, history and history of art, pedagogical department services, professional library, conservation workshops, photo laboratory, department for general, material and financial affairs and technical support service. The Museum materials are classified in a number of archaeological, ethnological, historical, artistic and numismatic collections.
Two permanent exhibitions are displayed in the buildings of the Museum: Užice, Origin and Development, Republic of Užice 1941, Bequest of Painter Mihailo Milovanović and History of the Military Industry in Užice from 1928 to date. The permanent exhibition Partisan Arms and Ammunition Factory 1941 is displayed in underground tunnels.
The permanent exhibition The town house from the late 19th and early 20th century is located at the Jokanović family house, as an integral part of the Museum complex. The Kadinjača Memorial Complex displays the permanent exhibition Workers' Battalion in a Battle on the Kadinjača Hill and Užice Region in NATO aggression.
