Indonesian language textbooks are written with the aim that students have competence in Indonesian for various purposes as social activities. It is hoped that the activities designed in this book can help students develop the language competencies needed in real life.

The main concept of developing this book is based on social activities which have variations according to the objectives of social activities and communication objectives. Each type of language activity in social life has a specific way of expression (rhetorical structure of the text) and specific linguistic elements. This is a new way of looking at language. If in the previous curriculum book the presentation emphasized a communicative approach, then in this book the presentation further sharpens its communication effects and the impact of its social function.

For example, if previously students learned to write letters in a standard format without placing too much emphasis on the content of the letter, then letters now must have a social impact (showing personality when writing a job application letter, a letter that convinces other people). Language and content are two things that support each other. This is in line with the development of language teaching theory in Europe and America, Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), which highlights 4 important elements to sharpen the understanding of language competence, namely content, language/communication, cognition and culture. The development of this book was carried out by referring to the theoretical concept that underlies current language learning, namely CLIL (content language integrated learning). Likewise, the syllabus in this textbook was developed based on the development of pedagogical principles.
